Cable Information
The Cable Television Advisory Committee was formed in the late 1970s, early 1980s when the Township's first cable franchise agreement was made. Tredyffrin is on its second 15-year franchise, which will expire in 2010. Over the past 20 years, Tredyffrin has passed the franchise through three companies: Harron, Adelphia and most recently, Comcast Cable Communications. In 2007, Tredyffrin negotiated and passed a new franchise agreement with Verizon to provide the Township with cable service in addition to Comcast.
The mission of the CATV committee is four-fold: 1) negotiate with the cable company for a franchise agreement that is to the Township's advantage; 2) manage the franchise to make sure they are doing what they agreed to do; 3) oversee the Township's public access station (cable company equips, staffs, trains and runs the day-to-day operations of the studio, but the CATV committee has oversight); and 4) act as a consumer advocate for residents on issues such as billing, lapses in service and equipment.
The CATV committee advises the Board of Supervisors on the technical aspects of Cable Television ordinance; oversees public access programming and utilization of the institutional network; certifies finished cable television system by Comcast Cable Communications and Verizon; supervises the extensions of cable television, institutional network and adjacent cable system interconnects; reviews rates; reviews annual FCC system certification; and conducts such other activities which may properly come before this committee.
